Udo Toniato (1930–2011) was an Italian naive painter, born in Borgoforte (Mantua) and who lived mainly in Guastalla. He began painting in 1967, after having worked various trades, and developed a very personal body of work devoted to the popular life of the Po Valley.

His paintings, with bright colors and a narrative character, depict scenes of daily life, villages, festivals, cafés, peasants and the inhabitants of Guastalla and the surrounding areas. He is notably known for his small figures, which he affectionately called his “umaciòt.”

Close to Antonio Ligabue, whom he met in 1967, Toniato participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, notably in Rome, Cologne, Florence, Zagreb and Milan. He is today regarded as an important figure of Italian Naive art from the Po Valley.
