Description from the seller
1 bottle – Château Lynch-Bages 1990 – Pauillac, 5th Growth
THE ESTATE
Château Lynch-Bages, classified as 5th Growth in 1855, occupies the Bages plateau south of Pauillac. Under the direction of Jean-Michel Cazes, the property established itself in the 1980s as one of the great overperformers of the classification, regularly tasted and rated at the level of the second wines.
The grape composition is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The house style is easily recognizable: ripe cassis, cedar, graphite, a dense and generous texture, with a flesh that sets Lynch-Bages apart from the more austere Pauillacs.
THE VINTAGE 1990
1990 ranks among the three great Bordeaux vintages of the late 20th century, alongside 1982 and 1989. A hot and dry summer allowed exceptional ripeness of the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Lynch-Bages 1990 is unanimously acclaimed by the international press, with scores around 95–96/100. It is now in its peak drinking window and retains a potential for cellaring of ten to fifteen years.
Deep garnet color with tawny reflections. Bouquet blending confit cassis, cedar, blond tobacco and graphite notes characteristic of Pauillac. Palate broad, with melted tannins, very long finish. Decant one hour before serving, at 17°C.
PROVENANCE
Bottle purchased directly from the property and stored since in a private cellar, laid down, at stable temperature and humidity. No break in the storage chain.
CONDITION
Level: neck fill. An exceptional level for a Bordeaux of thirty-six years, indicating a perfectly airtight cork and impeccable storage.
Capsule: original capsule in place, intact, with no perforation or leakage marks.
Label: in place, legible, slight cellar patina and some superficial marks with no serious damage.
Glass: clean, free of chips or cracks.
Sold as is. Given the age of the wine, no guarantee can be given on the contents.
Careful shipping in a specialized egg-crate carton, with padding and insurance included.
