A work linked to the realm of European figurative painting of the 20th century, with a marked proximity to Fauvism and chromatic expressionism. The naturalistic representation of the female figure deliberately contrasts with an environment built from free blotches, intense colors and abstract shapes. Echoes of the chromatic investigations developed from Henri Matisse and the Fauves, as well as later expressionist and figurative currents that combined human representation with abstract backgrounds, are noticeable.

Composition featuring a young seated woman, represented facing the viewer and occupying a large portion of the pictorial space. The figure is clothed in light white attire and a wide skirt in mauve and purplish tones. The face and anatomy receive considerably more naturalistic and modeled treatment than the rest of the composition, with particular attention to the expression of the gaze, the flesh tones and the placement of the hands.

The background constitutes one of the most characteristic elements of the work. It is developed through large chromatic masses of ultramarine blue, turquoise, violet, black, pink and green, among which circular and organic shapes of nearly abstract character appear. Certain areas incorporate impastos and grainy textures in golden and light tones, enriching the painted surface considerably.

The title “Venus Fovista” sets a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional motif of Venus: the classical idealization of the female figure is replaced by a modern woman, placed within a free and expressive chromatic universe. The contrast between figuration and abstraction provides the composition with notable visual presence.

Presented with a narrow, simple light-colored frame, nearly white, of a straight-edged and contemporary design. Its discreet character allows focus on the painting’s intense color range.
