Description from the seller

Brooch – Stork with Outstretched Wings - Messenger of the Sky - Loyalty and Filial Piety.

Elegant brooch depicting a stork in full flight, wings wide spread, in a composition that is both airy and richly intricate.

Made in an alloy with gold and silver finishes, it stands out for the remarkable work on the plumage. The wings are composed of several rows of finely veined and cupped feathers, alternating gold and silver tones.

The well-defined reliefs give depth and movement to the whole and enhance the impression of a bird caught in full ascent.

The body of the stork is accented by a faceted oval red stone, set in a silver surround. A second red stone, smaller and round, adorns the top of the neck. Their intense red color provides a bright contrast with the shine of the metal.

The long silhouette of the neck, the majestically opened wings, and the detailed drawing of the feathers give this brooch a particularly elegant presence.

Symbolism:

- Fertility and birth: Associated with babies since the 19th century (notably in Alsace and in the Kinderbrunnen legend), it also derives this origin from Germanic mythologies where it embodied the messenger of the goddess Holda, tasked with guiding souls to the world of the living.

- Fidelity and parental love: Due to its monogamy (the couple reunites each year) and its attentive care for its young, it symbolises conjugal loyalty and filial piety.

- Good luck and protection: In Alsace, where it is the quintessential emblem, it is reputed to protect houses from lightning and bring blessing or luck to the home where it nests.

- Spirituality and tradition: In Christian tradition, it is seen as a figure of Christ or of the victory over evil, for it chases and eats snakes. In ancient Egyptian or Asian contexts, it represents immortality, the soul, or longevity.
