Original gilded bronze figurine of a dancing Dakini (Vajrayogini) from Nepal/North India/Tibet, 40 cm high, 18 cm wide, 10 cm deep, dating to the second half of the 20th century, provenance: private collection.
Description from the seller
Refined and dynamic figurative sculpture in solid brass depicting a dancing Dakini (Vajradakini / Vajrayogini), a tantric spiritual figure of considerable importance in Buddhist and Hindu iconography.
The figure is captured in the classical and complex posture of ritual dance (ardhaparyanka), balanced on one foot atop a base finely worked with a double lotus.
In its hands it bears traditional ritual attributes: the bell (ghanta) in the raised right hand and the ritual skinning knife (kartika) in the left.
The sculpture stands out for the excellent rendering of the slender anatomical figure, the details of the jewelry, the headdress and the drapery. Made using the lost-wax casting technique with the original hollow base, it features a pleasant gilded finish with a light patina of age that enhances its volumes.
