Description from the seller
Monopole Clásico - Blanco Seco 2014 (5 Bottles)
C.V.N.E. - (Haro, La Rioja)
D.O.: RIOJA
Monopole is the oldest white wine label in Spain, launched in 1915. It hid a secret ingredient: a small amount of Sherry (manzanilla) mixed with the local Viura variety to gain structure.
From the early 20th century to early 1970s, Monopole was a must of homes and restaurants throughout Spain. This traditional style of white wine was huge until the increased use of stainless steel tanks and temperature control for wines from other regions, especially Germany and France.
What made Monopole special was the use of a small amount of Sherry, vinified under a layer of flor (yeast that forms a layer on top of the wine) that gives the blend aromas of manzanilla and dried fruit with lively acidity. and a long finish. Sherry added structure to Rioja, while both blended harmoniously in barrel and later in bottle.
