AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Thanks to the unmatched Statenhofpress, we are pleased to use the text from the prospectus that was lightly adjusted:

On October 11, 1995 Geerten Meijsing sends Nanne Tepper a one-line letter in which he expresses his admiration for Tepper’s debut novel The Eternal Hunting Fields. It marks the start of an intensive correspondence that will last until 2000 and will comprise more than 250 letters in total. A small selection of Tepper’s letters to Meijsing appeared elsewhere. The edition offered in this lot contains Meijsing’s complete share in this exchange.

Geerten Meijsing finds himself in the mid-1990s in a mental and emotional crisis. He manages to turn that into one of his most successful novels, Between Knife and Throat. The genesis of that book can be traced precisely in the letters to Nanne Tepper. It is also shown how he comes to know the young call girl Layla Goldstein. From his experiences with her arises a new peak in his oeuvre, the novel Dead Girl. The letters offer a unique glimpse into Meijsing’s authorship and reveal, without any embellishment, the high points—and especially the low points—of a crucial period in his life. Meijsing advises, contemplates, cites, formulates, references, peters out, swears, rages, rears up, sneers, teaches, regards, describes, tinkers, helps, shouts, whispers, sighs, curses – always in a unique and inimitable way. Letters to Nanne Tepper is, altogether, one of the pinnacles of Dutch epistolary literature.

Letters to Nanne Tepper, curated, annotated, and with a clarifying foreword by Jack van der Weide, appeared in January 2016 in a substantial bibliophilic edition from Statenhofpers in The Hague. The book runs to 360 pages. It also contains a index of persons and is supplied with a ribbon. It was set from Trinité 2 by the typesetters Chang Chi Lan-Ying and printed by Jan de Jong on Lessebo Design. The format, paper, and typeface conform to the prospectus also present in this lot. As a separate attachment, a facsimile of Tepper’s first letter to Meijsing is included. Peter Muller designed a special double monogram for this edition, partially in silver and partially in blind embossing on the spine.

The books were hand-numbered and signed by the author. This is number 102, as new.

The 125 offered copies sold out within a minimum of time.

NOTE! Contrary to the image, the book is not green but BLUE. A mistake by the camera.
