Description from the seller

EXCLUSIVE SET OF 8 GLASS COASTERS PIERO FORNASETTI
Mythological Series "Le Arpie Gentili" — Special Era Edition for Bonwit Teller (New York)

STORY & THEME
This authentic and rare set of 8 fine porcelain coasters was designed by the iconic Milanese designer Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s.
The series "Le Arpie Gentili" (The Gentle Harpies) poetically and surrealistically revisits figures from Greek and Roman mythology. While ancient authors depicted the Harpies as formidable storm monsters, Fornasetti reimagines these creatures as beautiful colorfully dressed women-birds, elegantly captured at the heart of theatrical cage settings and spiderwebs.

CONDITION & AUTHENTICITY NOTES
• Decor & Porcelain: Excellent vintage overall condition. The lithographed overgloss illustrations are beautifully preserved with very vivid colors. Only a very light patina of natural wear is noted according to the pieces.
• Small irregularities or localized enamel loss on certain pieces. These are marks of vintage firing supports (cooking supports of the era). They are authentic manufacturing characteristics from mid-20th-century artisanal Fornasetti porcelain and unequivocal proof of their age.
• Box & Accessories: Sold with the base (display stand) in the original cardboard box from its Bonwit Teller era (the top lid is missing), showing a healthy patina of age, light wear, and a superficial paper loss under the base (price tag label ripped). Also included are 6 intermediate faux-leather protection discs for stacking.

Photographic presentation: the first image is a AI-generated visualization created solely for staging purposes to present the pieces in a decorative ambiance and to provide an immediate overview of the lot. It is based on the real photographs of the objects. All other photographs in this listing are authentic, unretouched photos of the pieces, allowing faithful appreciation of their condition, motifs, markings and details.
