Indian Sadeli octagonal wooden box with floral decoration, a 20th‑century antique in painted wood with micro‑inlay, 18 cm high, 12 cm wide and 13 cm deep, weight about 500 g.
Description from the seller
Elegant 20th-century Indian octagonal box, made of wood and decorated with a refined Sadeli inlay technique, traditional to the Gujarat region, especially associated with Surat and Bombay.
The box features extraordinary geometric micro-mosaic decoration, formed by tiny pieces of different materials and colors that create complex patterns of stars, polygons, and repetitive motifs. The decoration extends across the exterior, the sides, and the interior of the lid.
The top incorporates an elaborate central floral panel in multicolor decoration, surrounded by geometric friezes in tones of blue, red, gold, black, and cream.
The Sadeli technique is characteristic of the craftsmanship of western India and is based on the preparation and transverse cutting of small groupings of materials to form geometric patterns that are then inlaid onto a wooden surface. There are historical examples of boxes of this type linked to Bombay and Surat.
Dimensions: approximately 18 × 12 × 13 cm.
Weight: approximately 500 g.
Material: wood with micro-inlay/Sadeli marquetry and decorative elements.
Origin: India, probably Gujarat.
Era: 20th century.

Shipping: The piece will be carefully packaged using appropriate protective materials to ensure safe transport. Given its nature and characteristics, it is recommended to obtain insurance for damage during transport. If such insurance is not purchased, the seller is not responsible for possible damage during transport. It is recommended to retain the packaging until you have confirmed that the piece has arrived correctly.
