Agir Watch Automatic Day-Date TV Screen in stainless steel 36 mm case, blue dial, leather strap, automatic movement with 25 jewels and Incabloc, from the early 1970s for men.
Description from the seller
AGIR WATCH Automatic 25 Jewels Incabloc Day-Date with TV-screen cushion case, early 1970s.
Case: the so-called "TV screen" / cushion, 37-40mm, very typical of 1970s design. Yours has a wide chrome bezel and black body - it was a very futuristic look at the time.
• Dial: blue-violet with applied gold indices, AGIR WATCH logo with three stars and the inscription AUTOMATIC 25 JEWELS INCABLOC under the hands. Day + date window at 3 o'clock - in the photo MAR 26.
• Movement: almost certainly an AS 1903 / 2063 - a Swiss automatic caliber with 25 jewels very commonly used by Agir in that period. It’s the one cited for other Agir Racing automatics from the same period: "The AS 1903 25 jewel Incabloc caliber keeps perfect time".
• Incabloc: it’s not the caliber, it’s the shock protection system invented in 1934 in Switzerland by Georges Braunschweig and Fritz Marti. Before Incabloc it was perfectly normal for the balance wheel axle to break after a fall.
The brand AGIR
Agir is a small Swiss house founded in Bienne in 1926. It was never a big brand; it made sturdy watches, often sporty/racing and chronographs with Valjoux, much appreciated today by vintage collectors precisely because they are rare. Yours is probably late 1960s / early 1970s - the golden era for TV-case designs.
The leather strap is to be replaced.
In the sale I consider only the case.
