By Doctor P. Foissac, chief physician of the Maison d'éducation de la Légion d'honneur of Saint-Denis, laureate of the Institute, officer of the Legion of Honor, commander of Saint-Sylvestre, commander of the Lion and the Sun of Persia, knight of the Order of Gregory the Great and of the Mejidie.
In Paris, at J.-B. Baillière et Fils, rue Hautefeuille, 19, near Boulevard Saint-Germain; in London, at Hipp. Baillière, 129, Regent Street; in Madrid, at C. Bailly-Baillière, Plaza de Topete.
1873.
A volume in octavo bound in half red morocco with corners or marble paper, spine with false raised bands ornamented with gilded compartments and the title lettered in gold. The interior consists of clear text on laid paper, opening onto the administrative and medical title page listing the many honors of the author. Two pages with cuts. The rest is complete and clean.
Dr. Pierre Foissac (1801–1886) is a prominent figure of the French medical corps in the 19th century, known for his pioneering work on physiology, public health, animal magnetism and lifestyle hygiene. This mature work condenses his precepts on regimens, temperance and environmental factors favoring a long and healthy life, bearing witness to the zeal at the end of the Second Empire and the early Third Republic for preventive hygiene.
