Margit Tevan - Casket - Metal - Bauhaus style

Refined rectangular table-top box (usable as a cigarette holder, jewelry box, or catchall) in repoussé and hammered brass, a signed piece by the renowned Hungarian goldsmith and metal artist Margit Tevan (1901-1978).
The lid is relief-decorated with narrative scenes arranged on two registers, populated by human and animal figures. The ornament perfectly embodies the artist's stylistic signature, capable of blending the linearity typical of Bauhaus and Central European modernism with archaic inspirations drawn from medieval and Romanesque sources.
