Splendid Vintage Religious Carillon in Metal – "Apparition of Lourdes" (SERAL, France – 1950s)
An incredible vintage collectible piece, this increasingly rare mechanical diorama/carillon represents the famous scene of the Apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes to Saint Bernadette inside the Massabielle cave.
The object was made in France by the historic SERAL manufactory of Lourdes (presumably between the 1940s and 1950s) and is entirely cast in a solid heavy metal alloy (zama/bronze), mounted on a protective wooden base.
• Musical Mechanism: Perfectly functional. By winding the butterfly key located under the base, the carillon activates, playing a sweet and evocative melody (the Ave Maria hymn of Lourdes).
In the background of the cave the famous phrase "Je suis l'Immaculée Conception" is engraved. The front of the base bears the inscription "APPARITION DE LOURDES" with a detailed bas-relief panel of the Sanctuary.
• Authenticity marks: On the back the original manufacturer marks are clearly visible: "SERAL - LOURDES" and "MADE IN FRANCE".
The object is presented in excellent vintage condition, with a beautiful original patina that enhances the raised details. There are no cracks or missing parts. The sound mechanism is smooth and well-paced.
