baselart - Between Them

Between Them is a contemporary digital painting by Basel, built around a moment of silent tension among three figures.

At the center of the composition, a woman with almost-silver hair looks directly at the viewer. She is surrounded by two silhouettes whose faces remain deliberately concealed. This construction immediately places the female character at the heart of a scene whose history we do not know.
Love, jealousy, desire, rupture, choice or solitude: the work offers no definitive answer.
Red, omnipresent, becomes here much more than a color. It invades the clothing and the background until it creates an almost unreal space. It can evoke simultaneously passion, danger, intimacy and the violence of feelings.

On the opposite side, the extremely pale face of the central character seems to emerge from this red mass. Her silver hair, deep shadows and dark gaze create an almost cinematic contrast.

The image also rests on a paradox: although physically surrounded, the woman appears deeply alone.
It is precisely this ambiguity that constitutes the heart of Between Them.

About the work
With Between Them, Basel explores the relationship between physical presence and emotional distance.
The three figures are extremely close to one another, almost confined within the same space. Yet, no real exchange is visible. The gaze of the central figure, on the contrary, traverses the scene to seek out the spectator.
The viewer then ceases to be a mere observer: they become almost the fourth character of the story.
The digital painting technique intentionally preserves a visible texture, particularly in the red clothing and the undertones, to move the image away from a traditional photographic rendering and give it the look of a contemporary painting.
The black caisse américaine frame especially reinforces this work: it visually contains the intensity of the red while creating an elegant contrast with the composition.
