AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Joost van den Vondel - a miscellany of 9 tragedies - bound in blind-stamped calfskin panel binding (Cambridge style), the front cover decorated with a frame with fleurons in the corners and a darker inlaid leather central panel. The spine features five raised bands and gold-stamped compartments with a red leather title panel.

Fair/moderate condition, as the front board and the first flyleaf are loose, quite some loss of leather at the foot of the spine, a crack a few mm from the top of the spine and a small hole at the top of the spine, wear and knocks on the corners and edges. Inner hinge at the back slightly open. Interior pages discolored, some spots. Inner margins open in four places. The block with pages 1 through 56 of Palamedes 1707 threatens to come loose. Corner of three leaves missing.

Part 3 (mentioned on the spine):
- Batavische broeders of onderdruckte vryheit - 1663 - 64 pp
- Palamedes of vermoorde onnozelheit - 1652 - 84 pp - frontispiece
- De Amsterdansche Hecuba - 1647 - 56 pp - frontispiece
- Gysbrecht van Aemstel - 1659 - 70 (1) pp
- Maeghden - 1644 - unpaginated, 67 pp
- Maria Stuart of gemartelde majesteit - 1646 - unpaginated, 79 pp
- Leeuwendalers - 1648 - (8) 69 (3) pp
- Palamedes - 1707 - (16) 82 pp - frontispiece, portrait, a large engraving (beesteboel) and 2 folding engravings of the beheadings of Van Oldenbarnevelt
- Hekeldigten - 1707 - 154, 14 (4) pp - 3 full-page engravings (of the scales—loose and with a slight fray at the side edge—the statue of Erasmus and entry), 5 portraits (Oldenbarnevelt, Hugo de Groote, Willem II, and Cornelis and Johan de Witt), a folding engraving of the burial of the hound belonging to the schout (crack, 3 cm, at the top inside margin)

The above tragedies published by Abraham, or the heirs Wees, Amsterdam; Pieter Brakman, Amersfoort and the old drukerye in Cologne
