Canna · Nascens Natura
Canna belongs to Nascens Natura, a sculptural line in which Juan Carlos Rayas investigates the structures and growth processes present in nature, translating them into the language of stone.
The work takes as its starting point the Canna, plants characterized by their large leaves and vigorous growth in which vegetal forms emerge, wrap themselves, and overlap around a single core.
The sculpture does not intend to reproduce the plant literally. Its leaves are transformed into large marble planes that rise from the base and unfold in different directions, building a compact volume that continually changes according to the point of view.
The smooth surfaces contrast with more defined edges and junctions, generating a tension between geometry and organic growth. The veins, small fissures, and chromatic variations typical of marble remain visible and form part of the piece's irrepeatable identity.
Carved directly in Macael marble, Canna transforms a mineral, solid, and permanent material into a structure that preserves the sense of growing.
Canna is an original and unique work, made entirely by hand and signed by the artist.
