Robert Mapplethorpe, Poppy, 1988, printed in 2009 as a digital print, 18.7 × 15 cm, on a wood panel, in good condition and unsigned.
Description from the seller
Floral still life.
A coqueliquot in contrast on a background lightly lit from below.
The work of Robert Mapplethorpe devoted to flowers constitutes another aspect of his career as a photographer. Begun in the early 1970s, his practice of floral still life allowed him to explore the purity of form, of light and of geometry, apart from the complexities of human subjects.
Yet his flower shots are far from conventional: through the use of striking black-and-white contrasts, surgical compositions and textures reminiscent of skin, he infused his plant subjects with intense sensuality, even an openly erotic dimension.
Color digital print with glossy coating. Hot-stamped surface lamination.
Former mounting specimen Misomex (Machine for film or file replication - CTP - Computer to Plate - for the imposition of offset plates).
Printer SERAG. Medium resolution. Later print, 2009.
Format 18.7 x 15 cm, mounted on wood panel 30 x 24 cm.
In very good condition.
Label and annotations on the reverse.
