Antique Bedouin solid silver sand-cast bracelet from Hadramaut/Dhofar, dating to the late 19th–early 20th century, with granulation and rosette motifs, weighing 96 g, inner diameter 6.0 cm and band height 2.5 cm.
Description from the seller
Rare rigid band bracelet in solid silver, originating from the border area between Eastern Yemen (Hadramaut) and Western Oman (Dhofar), datable to the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1920.
The bracelet is made with the ancient sand-casting technique and features a completely rigid and closed structure, devoid of hinges or pins.
The surface displays decorations in granulation and beading, with spherical grains framing the large solar rosettes (Shamsa). On the sides appear lozenges and geometric diamonds enriched by small punched traces, motifs traditionally associated with protective and auspicious meanings. Elaborate braided borders and dotted channels complete the band.
Fascinating is the texture of the sand cast, with its irregularities and the deep dark patina in the recesses. The reliefs and granules show a natural softness due to long-term wear.
The bracelet presents as solid and structurally intact, with no cracks or through fissures.
Only a few small superficial flaws are present: along the edge a thin portion of the upper perimeter cord is worn.
On the smooth ribbing of the outer edge there is also visible an ancient control stamp, or mark. The impression is heavily worn and does not allow for certain identification; however, the detail adds an interesting element to the object's history.
