Description from the seller
Antique hand-painted terracotta statue of the Hindu god Krishna – India – ca. early 20th century
A characterful and authentic antique statue of the Hindu god Krishna, made from terracotta/earthenware and completely hand-painted.
Krishna is depicted in his iconic and graceful tribhanga pose (triple-bent) while playing the flute. The deity is traditionally shown with blue skin, a yellow dhoti, and a red wrap, crowned with a detailed headdress (mukut).
This object exudes pure history and folk art.
The rear shows an opening characteristic of the traditional firing process for hollow terracotta figures. At the bottom of the pedestal is an old handwritten inventory number or mark ("39"), which contributes to the piece’s museum-quality and collectible character.
A wonderful object for collectors of Asian art, Hindu iconography, or antiques.
