A.R. Penck, born Ralf Winkler on 5 October 1939 in Dresden, Germany, and who passed away on 2 May 2017 in Zurich, Switzerland, was a renowned German painter, printer, sculptor and jazz drummer. He is best known for his Neo-Expressionist style, characterized by simplified figures and shapes, and neo-primitivist symbols and patterns. His work is unique for its primitive stick-figures and signs.

Penck developed a visual language based on a simple system of signs, which he called 'standart'. This language was both 'universal' and 'democratic', and was developed in response to the trauma of World War II and the ensuing dystopia of the German Democratic Republic. Despite the oppressive communist regime, Penck and his peers continued to make avant-garde art, which often led to surveillance by the secret police.

Penck's work has been offered at auctions several times, with prices reaching up to 687,211 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. In 2017 the average price for a Penck painting at auction was $113,412; in 2020 that rose to a record of $138,071. In 2022 the average price of a Penck painting exploded to $250,360.

Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper. The displayed photos are part of the description.

This artwork is carefully, securely packed and shipped in protective acid-free paper.
