Description from the seller

Relic of Saint Teresa of Jesus

Small cloth touched to the Sacred Heart and Arm of Our Saint Teresa of Jesus.

Exceptional devotional reliquary focused on the figure of Saint Teresa of Jesus (Teresa de Cepeda y Ahumada), Doctor of the Church and one of the great mystics of Christianity. The piece houses a third-class relic (ex contactu), consisting of a fabric or “little cloth” sanctified by having been in direct contact with two of the most important and venerated bodily relics of the Carmelite saint: her Sacred Heart — associated with the famous phenomenon of the transverberation — and her incorrupt Arm.

In Catholic tradition, these touched elements to greater relics acquire a profound spiritual value, serving as a link of intercession and blessing for the devotee or collector.

The authenticity of the object is supported by the preservation of its original era-printed plaque, on which the inscription reads distinctly "Little cloth touched to the Sacred Heart and Arm of Our Mother Saint Teresa of Jesus" beneath a small Latin cross.

The sacred fabric, arranged in the shape of a heart and adorned with delicate floral embroidery and devotional appliques, is kept under glass within a hand-carved wooden frame with botanical motifs and antique polychromy. It presents an attractive historical patina and a notable state of conservation that denotes its use as a private or convent worship object.

19th Century

Relic size:

5.5 x 4 cm

With carved and polychromed antique frame

Dimensions: 22 x 18 cm
