Description from the seller

Linnaeus, Carolus - Genera Plantarum. . . Editio secunda, nominibus Plantarum Gallicis locupletata. 1743. Rare edition .

Published by Michel Anton David, Paris, 1743

This 1743 edition “Genera Plantarum “ is rare and particularly remarkable because it is enriched by the integration of French vernacular plant names and additions from Classes Plantarum.
Linnaeus details his famous natural characters according to the number, shape, position and proportion of the parts of the fruiting (stamens and pistils). It thus lays the foundations of nomenclature and modern botanical classification, the principles of which were formalised a few years later in Species plantarum in 175.
This edition contains 2 folding engraved plates with multiple botanical subjects. One plate describes 24 plants and the numbers of the plants correspond exactly to the 24 classes of the Linnaean system) and 1 folding letterpress table.
In the Genera plantarum, written entirely in Latin, each plant is described in a linear way, sometimes with a brief final commentary, according to physical characteristics

Some interesting information!
It should be noted that the title Genera plantarum, i.e. the "plant genera", will subsequently be widely used by other scientists, especially by JUSSIEU who, in his 1789 version, will present his own classification in response to that of LINNÉ. ( see last photo)
