Description from the seller
“Aurelii Augustini Prima Quinquagena” 1497.
Rare incunabulum printed by Johannes Amerbach in Basel with all 3 parts.
Early psalm interpretation by the church father Augustine on all 150 psalms, divided into three sections with 50 psalms each.
With numerous fine red and blue initials. At the beginning of the second and third parts, respectively, a larger initial mark.
Bound in a green-dyed parchment binding from the 16th century. This is rubbed and slightly loosened. The spine is restored and somewhat cracked. Without the tie-down cords.
The pages bear some larger staining along the edges and corners. In addition, there are almost continuous marginal tears, but these are mostly outside the text area. The title page has some handwritten notes.
The first five leaves are damaged in the upper area, including a few mostly smaller defects, with some loss of text. The second leaf shows an added defect in the lower corner, intruding somewhat into the text area.
Leaves 4–5 are loose and leaf 8 shows added defects at the edge with some loss of text.
The index leaf EE8 has edge reinforcement.
The last pages of the index show a slight tear at the bottom outside the text area.
Leaves FF2 to FF7 are somewhat loosened.
Leaves B1 are missing in the first part, as well as leaves FF1 and FF8 at the end of the index. Very at the end there is an bound-in, unidentified leaf.
Collation: 423 (of 426) leaves, 1 unidentified leaf
Dimensions: 28 x 22 cm
