A two‑piece historical German pewter collection in zinc, comprising a large 33.5 cm Classical/late Baroque presentation plate dating to 1794 by Johann Andreas Blau with two Saxon marks and a Jugendstil coffee canteen by Eduard Hueck from around 1900, both in used condition with the set showing patina and restorations.
Description from the seller
Two-piece set of historical German pewter art. The collection pairs a rare, dated 18th-century collector’s plate with an elegant branded coffee pot from the early 20th century, creating a decorative display.
1. Large Classical Presentation Plate (1794):
• Dimensions & Weight: Impressive 33.5 cm diameter (large showpiece plate) and a heavy weight of 814 grams.
• Style: Classical / Late Baroque (rope-style) with typified strict, elegant geometry.
• Dating & Personalization: On the banner finely engraved with the name “Johann Andreas Blau” and the year “1794”. The name refers to the historically significant Nuremberg pewterER- and entrepreneur family Blau, which greatly shaped pewter work in the Erzgebirge.
• Pewter Marks (Punches): Two well-preserved Saxon marks – left the city mark (area around Zwickau/Erzgebirge) and right the round quality mark of Justitia, guaranteeing high-quality, lead-free fine pewter.
• Condition: Age-appropriate good condition with beautiful original patina. Over its 232-year history it has been soldered and restored several times. The back bears the typical historical rotation grooves of production as well as a later professionally soldered wire hanging loop.
2. Jugendstil Coffee Pot by Eduard Hueck (circa 1900):
• Manufacturer: Made by the world-renowned metalware factory Eduard Hueck in Lüdenscheid, famous for first-class Jugendstil pewter work.
• Design: Typical organic form language of German Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) with a curved spout, brass knob on the lid, and the original, heat-insulating dark wooden handle.
• Condition: The pot is in visually pleasing condition with charming patina. For collectors’ reference: The base plate of the pot has historically been repaired or resoldered in the past.
