Robert TERMAT (1924-2011) - River Scene - Large original gouache on paper
Description :
Splendid and dynamic gouache painting on paper by the French artist listed as Robert Termat (1924-2011).
The work depicts an animated river scene (evoking the quays of the Seine in Paris or activity on an industrial canal). The composition opens on a river in pale green and turquoise tones, on which two small tugboats puffing smoke sail. On the right, the raised quay is lined with stylized trees and blue-tinged urban architectures.
A few silhouettes of walkers sketched with a swift line in the foreground and background bring a noble humanity and movement to the whole.
Termat's style is expressed here with force through a decidedly modern brush, spontaneous graphics and white gouache impasto that saturate the sky and carve out the light. A captivating work, representative of the painterly freedom of the 1960s-1970s.
