Description from the seller
Rubboli Gualdo Tadino – Large polychrome majolica jug – Italy, first half of the 20th century – 37 cm
Description
Important polychrome majolica jug/pouring vessel from the Rubboli workshop of Gualdo Tadino, one of the historic Umbrian manufactories tied to the tradition of Italian artistic ceramics.
The piece features a particularly scenographic form, with a cylindrical body on a foot, a long neck, a broad shaped spout and a high raised handle.
The decoration, entirely handmade, is characterized by an intense blue background with vegetal motifs, scrolls and Renaissance-inspired decorations, in shades of yellow/ochre, blue, red-orange and white.
The bottom bears the hand-painted mark “RUBBOLI / GUALDO TADINO.”
The Rubboli manufactory played an important role in the history of ceramic art from Gualdo Tadino from the late 19th to the 20th century. Production was started by Paolo Rubboli and later continued by the family. Historic pieces are documented bearing the simple inscription “Rubboli / Gualdo Tadino,” without a personal initial.
Height: approximately 37 cm.
A piece of remarkable decorative presence and interesting workmanship, suitable both for a collection of Italian 20th-century ceramics and as an important interior object.
Conditions are visible in the photographs, which are an integral part of the description. Any small signs, glaze irregularities or imperfections are compatible with artisanal manufacture and the age of the object.
