For sale is a rare, matching pair of traditional Chinese woodcarved relief panels with leaf gold inlay (so-called Chaozhou Giltwood).

The special thing is that the two panels are thematically perfectly coordinated. They depict two opposing, complementary scenes. That is the perfect classical pairing for such Chinese relief pairs.

This is the traditional concept of “Wen and Wu” (Culture/Peace & Military/War).

This juxtaposition symbolizes the two pillars of a successful life and rule in ancient China:

The court/palace celebration (Peace, Prosperity, Civilization, Scholarship) stands for civil happiness..
