Eight-volume complete edition of Brantôme’s works by Pierre de Bourdeille, bound in full parchment and published in Paris by Foucault Libraire in 1823, in French as the original language, comprising 3000 pages.
Description from the seller
Complete edition in 8 volumes comprising the 7 works of Brantôme and the volume devoted to the works of André de Bourdeille, published in Paris by the Foucault bookstore between 1822 and 1823. The set is in In-8 format (approximately 21.5 × 13.5 cm) for a total of about 3,800 pages.
The work features an elegant period binding in full parchment (rigid vellum-style binding). The smooth spines are richly adorned with floral decorations in gold tooling of Romantic style, with a double title label in brown morocco and an oval cobalt blue medallion for the volume numbering. The year of edition is stamped in gold letters at the tail of each volume. The three edges are fully marbled in comb design. An ex-libris vignette from the prestigious London bookseller Myers & Co., 80 New Bond Street, London, is pasted to the pasteboard of each volume.
The external condition is excellent, the volumes are firmly bound, the boards are clean and the gilding remains particularly bright. Inside, the paper is sound and sturdy, showing age foxing scattered more markedly in some margins but without any impairment of the text readability.
