Description from the seller
Hello
Up for auction - and perfect for the Christmas season coming up - is this RARE first edition, first impression of the Raymond Briggs classic, The Snowman.
Raymond Briggs deliberately created the first edition as a completely silent, wordless book using pencil crayons.
Today The Snowman remains one of the best loved children’s books of all time and was made into a successful television symphonic animation in 1982.
First impressions of this book are now incredibly scarce; the first print run was small, and it wasn't until its popularity on TV that the print runs expanded.
Being a children's book, copies are often dog-eared.
This book presents extremely well. There is some slight yellowing to the front and back boards, but other than this, the book has woinderfully bright pages inside - nice a bright and vivid.
There is just a discrete former owner's label on the front inside endpaper.
A great, clean example of this wonderful children's book.
The book was runner-up for the Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association, recognising the year’s best children’s book illustration by a British writer. In the United States, it was named to the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award list in 1979.
Happy bidding.
