Description from the seller
Interior Decoration Set "Esprit Manoir" - Pyroengraved Troubadour "Amadis de Gaule" c. 1920, Brutalist Candelabrum & Monoxyle Heraldic Box
Set is a characterful decoration ensemble, nicknamed “Esprit Manoir / Cabinet of Curiosities,” bringing together three pieces of French popular art from different eras, perfectly allied by their patina, visual strength, and superb woodwork.
1. The Exceptional Piece: Large Polychrome Pyrography Panel (Circa 1920-1930)
• Subject: A superb chivalrous and courtly scene in Troubadour (Neo-Gothic) style, evoking imagery from famous medieval novels like Amadis de Gaule [Example]. It features a knight in medieval costume and a lady in a long patterned gown, wearing a traditional hennin.
• Technique: Extremely fine work with contours entirely incised with a hot iron (pyrography), enhanced with polychrome painting (bright red, ochre, brown, black). The side borders display superb geometric motifs and very graphic heraldic eagles.
• Signature & Condition: Monogrammed “J.B.” in iron in the lower right corner. Original back with its twisted passementerie drawstring.
• Dimensions: 43.5 x 31 cm (Thickness: 7 mm) | Weight: 400 g.
2. Large Brutalist Triple Candelabrum / Candlestick (Circa 1960-1970)
• Description: Imposing masterpiece in solid wood, with brutalist and medieval aesthetics. It presents a scorched-wood look with a strong textured brushed finish under a protective dark varnish.
• Special feature: Comes with its three originally detachable torches with long tenons that insert into the base anchor. Can be used individually. (Candles not included)
• Dimensions: Length: 38 cm | Width: 16 cm | Height: 24 cm | Weight: ~700 g.
3. Wall-Mounted Key Box in High-Epoque Style with Heraldic Coats of Arms (Circa 1970)
• Craft quality: Remarkable. The main body is a piece of folk art, entirely carved and hollowed from a single block of solid wood (monoxyle production, no joints or nails).
• Details & Finishes: The solid wood door is bas-relief carved with a heraldic shield depicting a fortified tower topped by a star under a crown. The box is topped with a superb Rococo-style pediment in carved wood and gold leaf. The gilding shows a gorgeous original patina, with portions revealing its traditional red clay substrate.
• Layout & Mechanism: The interior reveals 4 original brass hooks for hanging keys. Magnetic closure system with a round magnet perfectly integrated into the wood thickness. The back features its original green protective felt and its suspension cord.
• Dimensions: Height: 24 cm | Width: 14.5 cm | Thickness: 5.5 cm | Exact Weight: 510 g.
Very careful shipping (thick bubble protections) and secure tracking.
