Original Blanc de Chine porcelain sculpture from Dehua in China, 23 cm high, depicting Guanyin seated serenely on a rocky base with draped robes and a necklace, flanked by two traditional attendants, dating to the 20th century and originating from an antique market, in good condition.
Description from the seller
This 23 cm tall sculpture is a refined representation in Blanc de Chine porcelain (Dehua porcelain, originating from Fujian province in China) depicting Guanyin, the deity or Bodhisattva of compassion and mercy.
Guanyin is depicted seated on a rocky base in a serene and meditative pose. She wears long draped robes and a necklace adorned on the chest, elements typical of the classical iconography of this deity.
On either side are her traditional small attendants or acolytes (often identified with Longnü, the Dragon Girl, and Shancai, the boy from the south), which symbolize devotion and protection.
Blanc de Chine (known in Chinese as Jianbai), appreciated internationally for its milky-white finish, glassy luster, and the extraordinary fluidity in the detailing of the drapery.
