Oil on canvas by a follower of Giovanni del Brina, titled Holy Family with the Infant Saint John and Saint Catherine of Alexandria, dating to the 19th century in the Rinascimento style, Italian origin, unsigned, good condition, 110 x 80 cm with frame (80 x 50 cm without frame), sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Follower of Giovanni del Brina (19th-20th century) - Holy Family with the Infant Saint John and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
80 x 50 cm (without frame) - 110 x 80 cm (with frame).
Oil on canvas, in a wooden frame.
The painting follows the models of Giovanni del Brina, a Florentine painter active in the second half of the 16th century, trained in the circle of Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio and known above all for his many Holy Families in the manner of Andrea del Sarto, intended for private devotion.
At the centre of the composition the Virgin, dressed in pink and with a ribbon in her hair, holds the Child standing on a cushion as he embraces the Infant Saint John. On the left, Saint Joseph emerges from the shadow, while on the right a crowned female saint, identifiable as Saint Catherine of Alexandria, watches the scene with her hand on her breast. The dark background and the raking light on faces and flesh tones faithfully convey the layout of the late Mannerist Florentine model.
Condition report: Good state of preservation of the pictorial surface, with minor superficial marks and a small paint loss.
- This item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity.
- Further informations on the condition report are available upon request.
