Description from the seller
Araldica - Giuseppe Bettinelli - Famiglie Patrizie Venete divise in tre classi - Venezia, 1774
Description:
Rare and interesting volume of heraldic and genealogical interest printed in Venice in 1774 (MDCCLXXIV) by the renowned publisher Giuseppe Bettinelli, with license and privilege of the Superiors.
The work constitutes a precious historical-political compendium that maps in detail the patriciate of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, rigidly subdividing it into three distinct classes: the noble houses still surviving and residing in the lagoon, the historical families extinct before the Serrata of the Maggior Consiglio, and the foreign dynasties (sovereign, pontifical, and princely) added over time to Venetian nobility.
• Publication year: 1774
• Publisher: Giuseppe Bettinelli, Venice
• Language: Italian
• Conditions: Good/Overall fair. The volume preserves the charm of the era, printed on sturdy contemporary paper with intact margins ("editorial marks" visible). Frontispiece clear, with light and physiological signs of time and use on the page edges consistent with the period (18th century).
An ideal piece for collectors of Venetian history, genealogy and ancient 18th-century books.
