A pair of antique 19th‑Century transparent crystal absinthe glasses in the Estaminet style, dating to circa 1830–1845, in excellent unused condition.
Description from the seller
Rare pair of collectible Absinthe glasses - Restoration style / Louis Philippe 19th century - Museum quality
Exceptional and rare antique pair of heavy crystal Absinthe glasses dating from the first half of the 19th century (Restoration-Louis-Philippe period, circa 1830/1845)
Excellent antique condition.
The crystal is perfectly clear with no opacification whatsoever.
no chips, no cracks, no nibbling on the rim or the foot.
Both pieces have preserved their entire original integrity.
These popular art deco-style café/inn collectible pieces fit perfectly with the Restoration style (circa 1830-1845).
Their rational, robust design features a faceted goblet at the top, resting on a short, sturdy stem with a central securing button, characteristic of fine pre-war Estaminet glassware.
The inner base of the rim presents masterful marginal hollowing work in helicoidal ogival notches.
This three-dimensional motif not only served to refract candlelight but also acted as a technical dosage gauge for serving pure absinthe in elite Estaminets of the era.
Finding a glass from this period in this condition is already difficult, but presenting a perfectly matched, rigorously authentic paired set is a rare opportunity on the prestige tableware and collectible café/inn market.
A high-end handcrafted mouth-blown production, attributed to the major manufacturers of eastern France (Portieux/Vallerysthal) or Baccarat Crystal (pre-catalogue period).
An exceptional opportunity to acquire a perfectly matched pair with such longevity.
