*Robert Mogisse is a French painter born in 1933 in Saint-Just-Sauvage, in the Marne department.
Showing a very precocious talent for the plastic arts, he began drawing at the age of seven. His career took a decisive turn during his military service, a period during which he managed to sell his very first paintings, thus confirming his vocation. The passion for pictorial creation would not leave him thereafter.
A true traveling painter, Robert Mogisse defines himself as a nomad artist. His career is punctuated by numerous stays and successive residences in regions with highly contrasting atmospheres. He first settled on the Montmartre hill in Paris, a high place of artistic life, before moving down to the Midi region of France to draw on the Mediterranean light, and then placing his easels in the heart of the wild and mysterious landscapes of the Sologne. As he journeyed across France and the world, he tackled a wide variety of subjects, painting rural and forest landscapes, seascapes, scenes of Breton or Norman ports, and views of Venice.
Technically, he developed a figurative style recognizable by its generosity of form. He works his compositions with both brush and knife, layering dense coats of paint to give relief and texture to his works. His palette is characterized by vivid, warm, and contrasted colors, together with a meticulous attention to detail. Beyond his favored landscapes, he applies this same vigorous approach to still lifes of flowers.
Enjoying a fine reputation during his lifetime, Robert Mogisse exported his work far beyond French borders by organizing international exhibitions, notably in the United States and Japan.
