Description from the seller

Magnificent and rare religious wall plaque depicting a Virgin and Child created by Paul Vermeire (1928-1974), a renowned Belgian artist-painter, master glassmaker and ceramist from the 1955-65 era.

This work stands out for its highly stylized aesthetics, typical of post-war modern sacred art in Belgium. The faces and silhouettes are gracefully stretched in the manner of medieval icons, sublimated by colored cloisonné enamels on a white textured background, with black outlines (lavender blue, halo yellow, brown and orange-red). The polychromy of the enamels offers a very fine contrast with the raw ceramic structure. A refined collectible piece, ideal for Mid-Century interior design enthusiasts and Flemish ceramic art.
