Description from the seller
Art Déco pressed glass bowl 'Brüssel' – August Walther & Söhne – ca. 1935
XXL-characteristic Art Deco bowl from the well-known German glassmaker August Walther & Söhne (Sächsische Glasfabrik). This is the sought-after model 'Brüssel', produced in the mid-1930s (ca. 1934-1937).
The bowl is rendered in a beautiful, warm rosaline/pink hue and is a textbook example of German geometric pressed glass from the Art Deco period. The design stands out with the overlapping rows of circles (the so-called 'thumbprint' or bubble motif) alternating with sleek, vertical bands. The bowl rests on a sturdy, distinctive square foot.
This model is sometimes confused in literature and at international auctions with the Edward bowl from Val Saint Lambert's 'Luxval' collection, but this piece can be attributed with absolute certainty to Walther.
The large bowl is in a nice, used vintage condition. No chips or cracks. There are the usual, light sliding marks at the bottom of the stand ring and a single tiny scratch/bubble in the glass, which is inherent to the pressed-glass production method of that period.
• Diameter: 33 cm
• Height: 9 cm
• Weight: 2024 g
Will be packed very carefully in double-boxing and shipped by registered mail.
