Stanisław Masłowski was a prominent Polish painter, draughtsman and watercolourist, best known for his atmospheric landscapes and scenes of rural life. Born in Włodawa, he studied at the Warsaw Drawing Class under the renowned landscape painter Wojciech Gerson.
Early in his career, Masłowski travelled extensively in Ukraine, where he painted Cossack subjects, village scenes and landscapes. His artistic development was influenced by Polish Realism, while later travels to Munich, Italy, Paris, Sicily and Tunisia broadened his approach to colour and light.
Masłowski became particularly celebrated for his **watercolours of the Polish countryside**, especially those depicting the surroundings of Wola Rafałowska near Warsaw. His mature works combine close observation of nature with a lyrical and increasingly decorative treatment of colour, atmosphere and light.
He exhibited widely and was associated with important Polish artistic organisations, including the *Sztuka* artists' society and the Polish Watercolourists' Circle. Today, his works are held in major Polish museum collections and continue to be actively traded on the international art market.
