Description from the seller
Gaetano Innocenti (XIXth century)
Portrait of a young girl
Oil on canvas, signed, Rome 1902
58 x 44 cm (75 x 61 cm with frame).
Splendid antique painting depicting an intense half-length female portrait set in a delicate rural landscape. The young protagonist wears traditional-style clothing, consisting of a white shirt and a dark red shawl with elaborate decorative patterns. The artist shows remarkable technical skill in rendering the flesh tones and the expressiveness of the face, characterized by a sweet and direct gaze, conveyed with soft, blended brushstrokes. The light caresses the girl’s features, highlighting her youthful traits, bright eyes, and updo. The countryside background, outlined with trees and meadows rendered in muted, earthy tones, helps create a serene, rural atmosphere.
At the bottom right the work bears the artist’s autograph signature, accompanied by the city “Rome” and the year of execution “1902.” The painting is mounted on an antique wooden frame, on the back of which the canvas dimensions and total footprint are handwritten in pencil. The work is embellished with a contemporaneous goldwood frame, adorned with elegant carved motifs in a braided ribbon pattern.
If the frame is visible in the photo, it is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, given its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. Even the wall-mounting system could be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the work. They can be removed on request at no additional cost. Please let me know if you prefer the work to be shipped without it; otherwise I cannot assume responsibility.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
In case of package return due to wrong address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer will be required to pay for a second shipment and cover the return costs.
I would also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT, and customs duties are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be collected by your country’s authorities upon delivery. I advise informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I most strongly recommend, as it will eliminate shipping costs and ensure the maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to pack it to protect the painting during transit.
