Extremely rare German edition of Herman Hugo, Pia Desideria
The famous emblem book Pia Desideria by Herman Hugo (Antwerp 1624) also became popular in Germany. This German edition, issued in 1678, is bibliographically completely unknown: not listed in Landwehr, German Emblem Books; also not found in VD 17, WorldCat, Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog, and USTC.

32mo (11 x 6.5 x 3 cm), 319, (3) p. (omission of pp. 157-160), with 46 large emblematic engravings outside the text. Contemporary leather binding, with signs of wear; break in the binding, yet sturdy.
The copy has been intensively used as a devotional book. The paper is browned, and the engravings in the bottom right corner have been frequently touched by fingers.
Perhaps a few preserved copies of this emblem book in mini-format exist, with all 46 charming engravings.
