Farmers on a rice paddy field, an oil painting by Swedish artist Karin “Kewe” Eitrem (1916-2014), dating from 1980–1990, in the impressionist style, depicting a landscape, 40 cm high by 100 cm wide, weight 1000 g, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
An original oil painting by Swedish artist Karin “Kewe” Eitrem, depicting Asian rural workers planting rice in a flooded field. Rendered with expressive, textured impasto and palette knife work, the scene features rich earth tones set against pale blue and grey skies.
The figures are clad in practical, loose-fitting garments in contrasting Earth and vibrant tones—a style deeply rooted in East and Southeast Asian agricultural traditions (such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand).
These lightweight, flowing clothes are designed to facilitate movement in wet paddies while shielding the skin from the tropical sun.
Completing the attire are traditional conical straw hats—famously known as Nón lá in Vietnam and worn throughout the region—serving as a timeless symbol of rural farming heritage.
The painting is housed in a dark wooden frame with a gold inner border.
Eitrem studied art in Sweden and abroad, exhibiting widely throughout her career while also working as an art educator.
