Antique Art Nouveau / Neo-Rococo Brass Trinket Box with Red Silk Interior - c. 1910-1920
Description:
An elegant and finely cast antique brass jewelry or trinket box, dating from the early 20th century (circa 1910-1920).
This exquisite boulevard piece features a beautiful eclectic blend of design periods, combining fluid Art Nouveau elements with rich Neo-Rococo relief work.
Key Features & Decorative Details:
• Lid: Heavily embossed with a dynamic, high-relief pattern of stylized chrysanthemums with curved, organic petals, highly reminiscent of early German Art Nouveau metalware (such as Erhard & Söhne designs).
• Sides: Richly decorated with traditional Baroque and Rococo motifs, featuring a central cherub/putto mask flanked by floral garlands and acanthus scrolls on the front and back, alternating with a classic urn/vase filled with fruits on the shorter sides.
• Interior: The inside of the lid reveals a highly refined, crisp geometric engine-turned (guilloché-style) pattern featuring four-leaf clovers and dotted textures. The lower compartment retains its original, vibrant red silk/ribbed fabric lining.
• Base & Build: The box stands on four integrated corner feet. The underside is unsigned/unmarked, which is very typical for premium foundry brassware produced for luxury department stores during this era.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition overall. The brass displays a wonderful, untouched rich golden-brown patina with authentic signs of age, including minor verdigris hints in the recessed details that beautifully accentuate the relief. The hinge mechanism is original, sturdy, and operates smoothly. The interior textile shows light age-related wear but remains completely intact, clean, and securely fitted without tears.
Dimensions : 5 cm × 10 cm × 8.5 cm
This charming, untouched piece of European social history makes for a perfect addition to any collection of antique metalware or a sophisticated decorative accent for a vanity table.
The product will be professionally packed and sent safely to your address by local post.
