AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Currently on display at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
Jean-Luc Verna & Sandrine Pelletier, "Dream Platinum" from September 6, 2026 to January 3, 2027.

Sharing artistic experiences is the aim of Anaïd Demir and Stephen Joannon. She is an art critic and curator for over 20 years, he is a music critic, gallerist and epicurean above all. The duo, who met in the 1990s, now bets on marrying art with haute cuisine through a new project called “A Chef, a Work.” The principle? About a dozen guests gather around a chef’s table to share a menu designed in dialogue with a contemporary artist’s work. For this first edition, the artist Jean-Luc Verna sat at the chef Théophile Playoust’s table, surrounded by invited collectors, knowledgeable art enthusiasts and above all gourmets. On this occasion, Jean-Luc Verna presented his work “Paramour,” a copper-silkscreen that guests could purchase at a preferential price…

Presentation

“At Verna, drawing is a backbone that keeps everything else upright: photography, cinema, music, tattooing, masks, facial expressions, and eye expressions. It is in the precisely elaborated gesture of drawing that he has found a complex form, arising from a memory retreat and the emergence of the present. For him, drawing is a teaching, a continuous education in which he is both student and master. For Verna is an exemplary pedagogue, convinced that classicism is an unexplored transmission belt, a form of subversion. Drawing for him undergoes a highly sophisticated process of reproductions and shifts: starting from paper, it moves to tracing, then to photocopy, where it is enlarged and somewhat degraded. This photocopy is then rubbed with trichloroethylene to be transferred onto the wall, onto old papers, or onto fabrics, before being redrawn in blackstone, colored pencil, and kohl, where sometimes ornamental elements such as black stones, rhinestones, feathers, garlands are added.”
- Stéphanie Moisdon, Roches Noires

Jean Luc Verna benefited from a solo exhibition at MAC/VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine in 2016 and more recently at the Fondation Salomon in Annecy. His drawings have been exhibited as part of the Guerlain donation at the Centre Pompidou in Paris; as well as on the occasion of the 1984-1999 La Décennie exhibition at Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2014. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions (Centrale for Contemporary Art, Brussels, MuCEM, Marseille, Centre Pompidou, Paris, Forde, Geneva, Villa Arson, Nice, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Mac/Val, etc.). His works are present in prestigious collections such as MoMA, NY, The Judith Rothschild Foundation, Flourtown, RAM Foundation, Amsterdam, Centre Pompidou, Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Mac/Val, Printemps de Septembre in Toulouse, as well as many Regional Funds for Contemporary Art.
A reference monograph is available in the Création contemporaine collection, co-published Flammarion/CNAP, as well as a catalog published by MAC/VAL.
