Alexandre Matas i Conchillo was born in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona) in 1942 and died in 2008. He was a Catalan painter and filmmaker, especially known for his landscapes of the Costa Brava and his depictions of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a town he documented through his painting over several decades.

His artistic training was mainly self-taught, although he took drawing lessons for two years from the teacher Gertrudis Romaguera i Valls. He initially combined his artistic activity with his job as a plumber until 1976, when he decided to devote himself fully to painting.

His work, inspired by Impressionism, is characterized by representations of Mediterranean landscapes, seascapes, streets and urban scenes, with particular attention to light, color and atmosphere. In 1966 he held his first solo exhibition in Platja d'Aro.
