Description from the seller
Henry Schouten (also listed as Henri Schouten) (Indonesia, c. 1857 – Brussels, 1927) was a Belgian painter best known as an animal and landscape painter.
He received his training at the Academy of Brussels (1876-1881). He was under a strong influence from the animal painter Alfred Verwee.
He was primarily a fluent realist animal painter: cows, sheep, horses, chicken runs and animals in the yard. But he also painted peasants and shepherds in their surroundings, a hunter with dogs, a drinking horse dealer or a dairywoman with a dog cart. He also painted a number of still lifes with flowers or poultry and fruit or a still life with fish and shrimp.
From 1882 he exhibited in Brussels with the Union des Arts.
Oil on canvas, canvas size 24 x 31 cm. The painting shows very light craquelure, not disturbing. Supplied with a classical frame in good condition with minor signs of use/age. This is included free of charge.
The work is carefully packed and shipped internationally by registered mail.
