Artist biography:
Nicolas Sternberg was a Hungarian painter, draftsman and illustrator, linked to the Paris School, best known for his portraits and drawings of human figures.
He was born in 1901 in Hungary, according to various references, although some sources place his birth in 1902.
He studied art in Budapest and Munich before settling in Paris during the 1920s, where he continued his training at the Académie Julian.
In 1929 he exhibited at the prestigious Galerie Georges Petit in Paris.
He developed an active artistic career, creating portraits, drawings and watercolors, as well as illustrations for books and magazines across Europe.
His work is noted for the elegance of the line, the expressiveness of his characters, and the depiction of female figures.
He died around 1960.
