Description from the seller
No reserve price!
Large and Heavy Rustic Basin in Hammered Brass (57 cm / 5 kg) – 19th/20th Century, Late 19th or Early 20th Century (c. 1890 - 1920), antique brass (yellowish copper alloy) with thick, sturdy wall, 57 cm in total diameter (including rim).
Impressive large utilitarian basin in antique brass, entirely manufactured using traditional hammering and hand swaging techniques (tinsmith/locksmith work). An exceptionally robust piece, with thick sheet metal, totaling 5 kg of structural weight. Features a perfectly flat rim with folded finish and a body of truncated-conical shape.
On the bottom, a generous authentic seam of old-era welding stands out, made to reinforce and repair the base due to prolonged use, a detail that gives it enormous historic and ethnographic character. Preserves the dark original patina and natural oxides (matte dark patina). Ideal piece for rustic high decor (as a planter, linen chest/holder, or charming washbasin).
Shows natural wear, small dents and expected abrasion marks typical of a centennial utilitarian piece. No active holes. Very solid and sturdy structure.
