René Duguay-Trouin’s Mémoires de Monsieur Du Guay-Trouin, lieutenant général des armées navales, in French, a reissue edition published in Rouen in 1779, bound in leather, 400 pages, 17 × 10 cm, in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
René Duguay-Trouin (1673-1736). Memoirs of Monsieur Du Guay-Trouin, lieutenant general of the naval forces. Rouen, Imprimerie privilégiée, 1779, xl-377 pp.
A 12mo volume (170x100 mm), full calf, spine with raised bands ornamented, marbled edges (binding of the period). Binding in very poor condition, wear and rubbing on the boards and spine, missing half-title, small loss of paper in the upper corner of the last three pages, leaves 109-124 hold only by the upper portion, paper loss in the margin of pp. 129-130 without affecting the text, binding very loose with sometimes visible cords. Foxing scattered.
New edition; well complete with the six folding plates (tears on several of them)
In it, Duguay-Trouin recounts his maritime career and his major campaigns under Louis XIV. The narrative follows in particular his expeditions, naval battles, and captures carried out against France’s enemy powers. A significant place is given to the capture of Rio de Janeiro in 1711, one of the most famous episodes of his career
