Description from the seller
Historic Piece from the Late 1960s: LC1 Armchair – Design Le Corbusier, P. Jeanneret & C. Perriand – Original Cassina Production (Prod. Code 5870)
We present at auction an era specimen of extraordinary collectible value: the famous LC1 armchair, designed in 1928 by the Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand trio and produced by Cassina at the end of the 1960s. Its belonging to this early and coveted production period is evidenced by the serial number / stamp code 5870 printed on the frame, an element that certifies its historicity and its rare availability on the international market.
Design and History: The Revolution of Domestic Architecture
Presented at the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1929, the LC1 expresses the quintessence of rationalism:
Dynamic Tilt-Back Backrest: The project’s ingenious element is the hinged backrest, designed to fluidly adapt to changes in the sitter’s posture, guaranteeing ideal support.
Open Aircraft Architecture and Lightness: The chrome-plated tubular steel frame exposes the leather components through refined rear spiral springs, reducing the furniture to the essential and transforming the supporting structure into a strict graphic mark.
Lotto Conditions: Excellent Condition of Use (Cavallino Upholstery Like New)
The vintage piece is in excellent overall condition, retaining its historic charm intact:
- Cavallino Tricolor Upholstery: The seats and backrest covers in tricolor horsehair are in excellent condition, free of wear or fur loss, practically like new.
- Leather Armrests: Intact and well-stretched, also in excellent condition.
- Chrome Steel Frame: The frame is solid and free of structural defects. Recently cleaned and polished, it retains good shine with minor, physiological signs of oxidation consistent with the production era (late 1960s).
- Authenticity and Historic Stamping: Originality is evidenced by the Le Corbusier signature and by the vintage production code 5870 punched directly on the steel frame.
