Gerardus Johannes Delfgaauw (1882-1947)
After training at the The Hague drawing academy around the turn of the century, Gerard Delfgaauw worked in a naturalistic-impressionistic style. He lived and worked in Rijswijk. He painted many landscapes and cityscapes (including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Delft). Among his works are a series of dynamic Rotterdam harbor views, including De Nieuw Amsterdam and the Statendam moored at the Wilhelminakade. The work of this impressionist artist is included in the collections of several museums, including those in Rijswijk and Dordrecht. With appealing colors and a loose brushstroke, Delfgaauw invites the viewer to enter his nostalgic landscapes.
